Day 4: 54 miles, Cambridge, ID to Huntington, OR
We set off from Idaho to retrace our steps back to the start over the course of the next two days.
Every downhill into town we enjoyed while heading out became an unplanned climb back the other way. Today’s ride was dominated by a long climb on a major highway with no shoulder and tons of semi truck traffic. There were a few hairy spots with traffic and riders mixing together but there wasn’t anything the organizers could do given the limited choices of roads out here.
After a couple hours of grinding uphill we finally got off the highway and back onto lovely empty side roads for most of the trip back.
The skies were filled with clouds after a storm and made for dramatic shots and the weather was nice and sunny but not too hot.
After hours of rolling hills we made it back to our second camp in Farewell Bend state park, alongside the Snake River.
