Washington DC's metro line in May, 2019

Gina Trapani uploaded a visualization of her entire life, broken down by weeks, with milestones called out throughout. It's kind of surprising how someone's existence fits into a single scrolling page like that and I'm tempted to do one myself someday.

My Life in Weeks by Gina Trapani

Ethan Marcotte writes about working on government websites for the past year or so with 18F and making the painful decision to walk away when things got weird. It's courageous and unbelievably important to articulate your own bright red lines. I do this exercise every time I work for someone and it really helps to let you know when it's time to go, when any of your work approaches or crosses those lines.

I had a wonderful job, until I didn’t. This is about what happened—and what is happening.

I've heard about public transit officials doing ambitious stunts like trying to get across several states using only public bus lines (but it can easily take a week or more), so I loved seeing this train/transit guy Adam on YouTube going from the Bay Area to LA trying not to use any planes or cars or Greyhound or Amtrak. It's generally easy to get across major cities but I never know what people are supposed to do in the large open expanses between metro areas that require weird county busses, and spoiler alert, I was shocked when he gets about halfway down the entire state (at least a couple hundred miles!) in one day for only about $30 total. I can't wait to see how this all ends next week with his concluding video from the trip.
