Windows2000 makes life easier in

Windows2000 makes life easier in some ways, but in other ways, it’s terrible. Take for example network printing. I’m trying to print to some networked printers at work that are on our Novell network. I don’t login to the Novell tree, but the printers have IP addresses, so I want to print directly to them, bypassing the Novell OS. When I went into “adding a network printer,” it didn’t work. The “add network printer” applet has to know the exact name of the printer on the Windows network. After fiddling for a while, a coworker figured out that I can print to any networked printer in my offices if I “add a local printer” and choose it’s port as “custom TCP/IP”, then put in the IP address.

So now that I’ve figured that out, I’m printing to multiple networked printers, but all were installed as local ones. Talk about your backwards logic.
