Day 0: Cycle Oregon
I forget how wide Oregon is. For the first day I just had to pick up Chris and Thom and get our gear to Baker City, but it’s nearly 400 miles east from my home and despite what I thought was an early start, one thing lead to another and we were pitching tents in the dark with flashlights on a high school baseball diamond.
There are a lot of people here. I forgot what traveling with 2,000 people at once is like. There are nearly a dozen big rig trucks to cart all our gear, food, and showers around.
Oh there was one highlight: during the long drive we took a 2 mile detour across the river into Washington state where we found a pot dispensary that is run as a city-owned co-op. The shop was filled with old dudes going fishing, seemingly stoned all day sitting in boats. In all honestly, a pretty good way to spend a Saturday.
Also during our six hours of driving we watched my old boss Molly crush the world record on the track, live streaming from YouTube, which finished just as we pulled into the parking lot in Baker City.
Tomorrow, we roll!
