8 things to know about the movie Sinners before you see it
- It's best to go in cold. I had zero idea what the film was about, and had never seen a trailer for it. That made the impact of it hit harder. I won't spoil anything in this list.
- It's visually stunning to look at. There are certain scenes that will take your breath away and you'll think about for years going forward.
- It's categorized as as horror film, and follows some conventions of the genre. I usually dislike and avoid most horror films but the film is much more than the horror-ish subplot.
- Stay after the credits, as there are a couple scenes to wrap it all up.
- The music was incredible. If you like delta blues, you are in for a real treat.
- See it on the biggest screen you can with the best sound. It'll be overwhelming but worth it. I'm thinking of going to see it again at a maximum resolution showing on IMAX in SF or LA. Director Ryan Coogler explains all the formats here in great detail.
- The acting is superb and I hope Michael B. Jordan gets some recognition next spring from awards shows.
- It's a breakthrough film much like Get Out was.
