A decision made in an effort to support our loyal, local advertising community forced a compromise that has understandably upset our sports fans. When the soccer folks decided to move the women's finals from China to the U.S., that in turn added to ABC's roster of events. They divided those games between their cable outlet - ESPN - and their broadcast entity, ABC Television. This change came as an addition to their already announced weekend sports schedule. While we were able to make arrangements to carry two of the three assigned games, KATU decided to honor yearlong commitments to our advertisers - the businesses that support us all year 'round, especially during these tough economic times. Adding insult to injury was the fact that the listings in many places were incorrect. The game was never listed on our schedule, and the various outlets are looking into the discrepancy. For those who wish to record it, we will be airing the recorded game tomorrow night, Tuesday, 9/23, 11:35P-2:05A. Meantime, we again offer you our apologies for disrupting your viewing plans, and assure you that all arrangements have been made to carry the remaining two games live on KATU/ABC: Sunday, September 28th, 12:30P and Sunday, October 12th, 9:30A Thank you very much for taking the time to write. We hope you'll give us another chance. Sincerely, Julie Mespelt KATU Program Administrator
